A new retail report by Jones Lang LaSalle emphasises that changes across the global retail banking environment continue to be driven by political, economic and technological trends. These trends will lead to continued bank expansion in frontier markets, offsetting the search for greater efficiency in developed markets. The report, Global Retail Banking: Key Trends for Retail Estate, identifies that changes in global retail banking will be fuelled by increasing customer demand for innovation, flexible service capability and banks actively managing their brand’s presence in a retail environment.

Nike Fuelband Fit for Asia?

Another lightweight, polymer-encased fitness wristband has hit the market. But this one comes from Nike. The Nike+ FuelBand measures time, calories, steps and “NikeFuel.” It uses an accelerometer to measure movement, has built-in USB and 20 LED flights that flash red or green to show your progress, and can connect wirelessly to the iPhone via Bluetooth. The FuelBand comes with a free iPhone app, and is social network friendly, for those users who want to share their activity updates with Facebook, Foursquare and even Path. For now, the FuelBand app is iOS-only. Stefan Olander, Nike’s vice president of digital sport, says that the company will eventually explore other mobile operating systems for the app.

Global Beer Consumption Still Climbing

Global consumption of beer is continuing to rise, with demand in emerging markets driving the amount that was guzzled down around the world in 2010 to a new record.

Global consumption of beer is continuing to rise, with demand in emerging markets driving the amount that was guzzled down around the world in 2010 to a new record.

The research arm of major Japanese brewer Kirin Holdings Co. estimated last month that 182.69 million kilolitres of beer were consumed during the year, the most recent for which it was able to provide statistics.
