We also take a look at some other Starbucks data like when they first opened stores in each country, how much coffee the average person drinks, how many Starbucks stores there are per person in each of these countries, and how much Starbucks has grown overall in Asia.

Global Beer Consumption Still Climbing

Global consumption of beer is continuing to rise, with demand in emerging markets driving the amount that was guzzled down around the world in 2010 to a new record.

Global consumption of beer is continuing to rise, with demand in emerging markets driving the amount that was guzzled down around the world in 2010 to a new record.

The research arm of major Japanese brewer Kirin Holdings Co. estimated last month that 182.69 million kilolitres of beer were consumed during the year, the most recent for which it was able to provide statistics.

A run-of the-mill mid-market Cantonese restaurant on Yanping Road quietly turned off their lights and took their sign off the hook. Within a few days, a massive banner was wallpapered across the old storefront, urging citizens to prepare to feast on a Double-Double and Animal-Style fries. This statement vexed and inflamed burger-lovers across the city (Animal-Style is supposed to be a secret!) as well as created a commotion on Dianping.

There’s been a lot of talk in Taiwan about the opening of California Pizza Kitchen. The buzz of a new restaurant is generally a common thing here; however, store closings are just as popular. Can CPK really ‘make it’ in the high-profile Taipei 101 area? They certainly have a lot to compete with. For starters, pizza delivery is extremely fast here in Taiwan via Pizza Hut and Domino’s fine-tuned processes. There are also plenty of casual dining and high-end restaurants in the area. The most notable successful competitor in the area that comes to mind would be Gordon Biersch. Rent is definitely extremely high in this central business district. Maybe this is the reason why Macaroni Grill moved out of the neighborhood. Chili’s, however, has been a mainstay for many years.
